The SCR catalyst is integrated to the oxidation catalyst. This transforms the unburnt hydrocarbons (HC) and the carbon monoxide (CO) within the particulate filter (DPF) installed on your vehicle. It works through a chemical additive made of ⅔ water and ⅓ technical urea (AdBlue). Additives are injected directly into the SCR catalyst. Due to the contact with the exhaust gas and the high temperature it turns into ammonia. This thereby neutralizes the NOx and reduces it to a mixture of oxide and steam. Amazing!

If you see any of these symptoms you should clean your SRC immediately.

If you start to see any of the above symptoms its possible that your SCR is starting to fail. But there’s hope if you spot it early.
First you’ll see a progressive decrease of the operating capacity. Continued use of your vehicle under these conditions will lead to instant and irreversible damage caused by metals (such as copper and zinc) and other pollutant substances. Unfortunately, once this occurs the only solution is to replace the SCR catalyst.
